 Culture
The network of cultural establishments in the district include the Municipal House of Culture, 10 rural Houses of Culture, 8 rural clubs, 7 rural clubs-libraries, 3 Houses of Social and Cultural Services, 19 public libraries, library-club and library-museum. Children’s Musical School and its branches, Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy, the House of Folk Crafts, 2 Arts Houses function in the district.
The employees in the cultural sphere carry out a big creative and organizational work on arrangement of people’s leisure time, informing, development of creative skills and preserving of historical-cultural heritage.
More than 2000 people are involved in 170 amateur arts groups and 39 amateur clubs. Every year the number of groups which received the title “People’s” or “Exemplary” is increasing. In June, 2005 the amateur arts group “Akvafil” of Loktyshyovskyi rural club was honoured with this title. Many of those 13 groups are Laureates of International and National Festivals, district and regional festivals and contests. Brass band, folk instrumental band, folk theatre “Palanitsa” of Krugovichskyi Rural House of Culture, amateur club “Talaka”, music studio “Province” of the Municipal House of Culture, Puppet Theatre “Ulybka” of Children’s Library have won great popularity among people.
The calendar of folk holidays and traditions “Kalyady”, “Zazhynki”, “Dozhynki” was set up in the district. For many years Kupala fire is being burnt on July night.
Promotion of a healthy lifestyle also receives great attention. Parties and discos, quiz shows and intellectual contests take place. Such games as “Field of wonders”, “The wheel of history”, “Love at first sight” are being regularly held. Children’s festivities, parties, contests and educational programmes are loved by children.
Nowadays libraries are the united information centre in the towns and rural area. People come there not only to borrow a book, but also to get acquainted with works of local writers and artists, meet interesting people and spend free time.
Rich funds are available for readers. On the average, every library receives 11 newspapers and 19 magazines. 55% of the people of the district are readers in the library. Underpopulated and faraway villages are being served by mobile library assistants; mobile exhibitions function in the district.
In 2004 a Special Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus was given to the Children’s Library in Gantsevichi town.
Gantsevichi land is rich in traditions. The secrets of folk crafts are being passed from generation to generation. More than 500 folk craftsmen work in the district. On 20 kinds of crafts they collaborate with cultural establishments. 16 craftsmen are laureates and diploma holders of national, regional and local festivals; on regular basis they take place in regional exhibitions of folk crafts.
Workshop in weaving functions on the basis of the House of Crafts; expeditions to the historical centres of weaving and embroidery are being held regularly.
Such kind of work as work at home on contract is put in practice in order to support and develop folk crafts in natural conditions.
The Musical School is the centre of fostering children’s talents, which is attended by more than 250 pupils. 14 children’s and 5 adult art groups function there. A basic list of study courses is offered to the people of the region. Children and their parents may choose classes in the following instruments: piano, button accordion, violin and guitar, trumpet, saxophone and dulcimer. A preparatory class functions at the school. Promo activities of the school are held via concert-lectures.
The staff of the Museum of local lore, history and economy is in a constant search of new trends in work, it carries out daily work in gathering and collecting of items, materials on history and culture of the region. Interesting excursions became a valuable source of knowledge for pupils, students and teachers of the district.
Constant work in protection and preserving of historical and cultural heritage and honouring the memory of prominent countrymen is being carried out in the district. Complex work in protection, restoration and repairs of the historical and cultural monuments is being executed. In 2005 a monument to the Nazi victims was opened on the 7th km of the highway Gantsevichi – Khotynichi.
Non-budget activities are being actively developed in order to receive additional sources of finance. People are provided with more than 50 kinds of paid services.
150 specialists work in the cultural establishments; 72% of them have high and vocational education.
