Gantsevichi district is located in the south-west of the Republic on the territory of plains of Predpolesje on the Baranovichi (Kosovo-Kletskaya) aqueoglacial plain. The whole territory of the district belongs to the river’s Pripjat basin and is situated between its inflows: Lanо, Tsna and Bobric. In the average annual aspect atmospheric precipitations in the district make up 645 mm, the average temperature in January is – 5.7, in June +18, vegetation period lasts 193 days.
Indices of cadastral assessment of the collective farm’s acres and other agricultural enterprises of Gantsevichi district reflect that the district’s total score of the cadastral assessment is below average indices in the country. It is mainly determined by low fertility of the lands. The fertility index of the agrarian lands is 27.3 and of the arable land 29.5 according to cadastral assessment.
Flat country of the district predetermines stagnation and slow flowing of the surface water. It causes the necessity in melioration of the agrarian lands. Melioration system includes the above-mentioned rivers and big canals: Korytinsk, Strajevo, Zazersk, etc., and a number of supply and conductive canals, open dehydrators and subsurface drainage systems. There are 12 reservoirs in the district, four from them of more than 1 million m³. Total area of the reclaimed lands is 76%.
There are in the agricultural sector of Gantsevichy district 13 large agricultural enterprises and 20 farms. They form the most significant link of the economy of the whole district and, first of all of the agroindustrial complex. At their disposal there are 45.3 thousand hectares of the general use. Among them there are 38 thousand hectares of agricultural land and 18,5 thousand hectares of arable land. The distinctive feature of the availible land is a high weight of reclaimed area, about 75%.
13 agricultural enterprises and 11 farms function in the agricultural sector of the district, which constitutes an important part of the district’s economy and at the first place of the agricultural-industrial complex. They have at their disposal 51.4 thousand hectare of the total land, including 19.9 thousand hectare of the arable land within 44.1 thousand hectare of the agrarian land.
Agricultural enterprises of the plant growing sector of Gantsevichi district are specialized in grain, potatoes. Almost all the agricultural enterprises of the district are involved in cultivation of grain. Grain-crops occupy 60 per cent of the arable land. Rye, wheat, triticale, barley and oats are the main grains.
For the purpose of fattening are grown perennial and annual grammas, sweet corn and root vegetables. The main feed crop is sweet corn. The main harvest of grammas fodder is gathered on the hayfields and pastures. Their area amounts to 60 per cent of the whole area of the agricultural land.
Agricultural enterprises grow potatoes. Agricultural Manufacturing Co-operative Society "Ogarevichy" has a meristem laboratory on seed potatoes’ growing.
It’s necessary to mention that on the territory of the district there is "Juravinka" of the Science National Academy of RB which specialize on the growing of cranberries, tall great bilberry, cowberries and their seedlings. Its staff is working on implementation of these kinds of plants and searching for the new ones.
Animal breeding is also a very important branch of the district economy. To the share of the cattle-breeding falls almost two thirds of the animal-breeding product’s gross value. At the beginning of 2009 there are 17795 head of cattle including 5616 cows. Farms get more than 97 per cent of milk and beef from black and coloured cattle. Activities on the development of meet cattle-breeding are carrying out in the district at present time. Agricultural-manufacturing cooperatives “Vozrozhdenie”, “Kryshilovichi”, “Malkovichi”, “Deniskovichi” are specialized in cattle-breeding for meat. There is a complex "Jasenevo" for 2040 places of the agricultural manufacturing co-operative "Vozrojdenie" specialized on cattle’s fattening.
There is a fish industry "Loktyshy" on the territory of the district. This enterprise specializes on fish breeding. The fish industry disposes of a pond fund of 2448 hectares including 2116 hectares of finishing and 283 hectares of nursery ponds. The main cultivated species is carp. Conjointly with carps the other species of fish have been breeding in recent years: amur, pike, silver carp and crucian. Production capacity on fish manufacturing amounts to 1900 tons a year.
The district train of machines and tractors has 221 tractors at its disposal, including 3 John Dir, 4 MTZ-2521, 1 MTZ-2822. There are 17 sowing combine units, 3 of them are imported, 60 grain harvesting combine units, 3 of them are imported, 8 fodder harvesting combine units, 3 of them are imported.
