Gantsevichy district is located in the north-east of the Brest region. Its territory occupies 48 km from the north to the south and 70 km from the west to the east. Gantsevichy district borders upon Luninets, Pinsk, Ivatsevichy, Ljahovichy districts of Brest region, upon Kletsk and Soligorsk districts of Minsk region. The area of the district is equal to 1,71 thousand km².
The territory is divided into 8 rural committees: Deniskovichsky, Lubashsky, Malkovichsky, Nachsky, Ogarevichsky, Hotynichsky, Chudinsky.
The most territory of the district is located within the south-eastern borders of Pripjatskoje Polesje. The surface is flat. Predominant height is 150-160 meters. In 36 settlements of the region live about 36,6 thousand people, 21,8 thousand of them in the country.
Five small rivers flow on the territory of Gantsevichy district. They are: Tsna, Bobrik, Lan, Vydrenka, Nach. There are also 11 lakes, 5 storage ponds, game reserves of republican importance. Among the latter can be named "Vygoschanskoje" (hydrological), "Borsky" and "Jelovskoy" (biological), local biological game reserve "Borky". Local monument of nature – Weymouth pine is situated in Krugovichskoye forestry.
There are on the territory of the Gantsevichy district fields of mineral water, sand-gravel material, mason’s sand, peat, 89,5 thousand hectares of forests. Percentage of forest land amounts to 54.7%, 39,1 thousand hectares were drained. Coniferous, black alder-trees and birch forests are predominated.
Average air temperature in January is -5.30 Ñ, in June +19,40 Ñ. Average annual quantity of atmospheric precipitations is 616 mm. The period of vegetation lasts 186 days.
Gantsevichy district is agrucalturally directed. Agroindustrial complex of the district includes 13 agricultural industrial co-operatives, 11 farms, 6 enterprises which serve the agrucultural sphere, experimental base "Juravinka". The total area of agrucultural lands makes up 38877 hectares, which include 20 thousand hectares of arable lands, 11 thousand hectares of haylands and 8 thousand hectares of pasture. The total mark of the arable lands is up to 33.
The agricultural grounds are mostly peatbogged, sod-polzd and waterlogged. Swamps occupy 13,2 thousand hectare of the district. It’s typical for such massives as Podveliky moch, Pustosh – Dobrolutskoje, Gal, Petrova Polyana. Meadows in a form of small lots are located in lowlands.
35,2 thousand people live on the territory of the district to the date of January 1, 2004.
20,4 thousand of them live in the countryside and 14,8 thousand – in the city. Density of population amounts to 21 person on a km².
